Tan Tru Expanded Edition eBook Larry Brooks Reviews

I found this book to be very interesting and hard to put down. Brooks provides an incredibly descriptive personal account of his experiences during Vietnam. His honesty is refreshing and he speaks openly about the war in a way few other Vietnam vets do. My uncle, a fellow veteran, rarely talks about his experiences in the war. Hearing Larry's account of his experiences helped me to get a better sense of the history and gain a better understanding of what life was like for men like my uncle. This book was recommended to me by my father, who, despite not being an avid reader, couldn't put it down. Brooks is an excellent story teller. I would highly recommend this book if you're interested in hearing about Vietnam "right from the horse's mouth."
grabs the frustration of trying to serve your country while dealing with personal survival and internal chaos.
Written by an actual on the ground soldier in the midst of it all. No glorification, just facts as they were.
The narrative flows nicely. It took me right into the events experienced in Vietnam. Combat vets seldom talk about their experiences in war so this was my chance to find out what went on during that time.
My Vietnam vet father loved it! Read it in 1 day!!
This book was written by my cousin and I did have mixed emotions while reading it. Very touching to me probably because he's family. Finished it on in about 5 hours.
I find this to be a well written account of what really happened throughout the Viet Nam War. Brooks keeps your attention and delivers a message common among Veterans who served there.
While I cannot say I enjoyed reading the book or loved it in the normal sense, I found that I could not put it down. The reading created a visceral reaction for me. The book is a recording of a soldier's first hand knowledge of the senseless tactics and miserable situation created in Vietnam at a base in the Mekong Delta. I thought the book was clear and it vividly conveyed from the author's view of what was happening anecdotally at the rice paddy view. The book confirmed for me what I had heard at the time while serving in the military back then. While I didn't experience what the author did, I was there and had always heard the stories from the guys on the ground in country. I am thankful the author took the time and effort to record what he did. His look back on the repetitive nonsense of attacking tree lines, then giving them up to the enemy only to return to the same place again gives the reader the mind numbing and frightening look into the action that accomplished so little and caused such senseless loss of life. While I have always believed the Vietnam war was useless, the book confirmed for me that it was not worth the loss of life of our young troops for what was gained! I am grateful that the author served, thankful that he survived, and appreciative that he told his story. I recommend reading the book.
